As I sit in a friend’s aparment, he is eating pasta and is enjoying a beer… for the first time, I doesn’t bother me!!!
In my first 20 days of eating gluten free, I have lost over 10lbs. I’m not starving myself or really concentrating on cutting calories, I’m just cutting out the gluten. Seeing a lower number on the scale almost every day so far, has kept my spirits high and mind on the right track. In the past when I have tried to eat gluten free, it would drive me crazy to watch people eat pizza and drink beer. As of today, I can say that I am over it.
I’m...

January is Girl Scout cookie month! There have been two boxes in my house for a week now… and I finally couldn’t handle it any longer. Today, I was starving and had to have just three. If I have some gluten free cookies around, I may not have buckled under the pressure.

Today I was out doing some shopping with someone I had just met. When it came time for lunch, I asked her where she would like to eat. I decided not to share that I was eating gluten free and then become a burden on where we could eat. We both said how we like anything, so then I suggested Chipotle(One of my favorites and somewhere I can eat GF!). She had never been there but was open to trying it. Since she had never been there, I asked her what some of her favorites were…. I should have just stuck with the GF place. This is where it starts to get ugly… She said, “there...

I was diagnosed with Celiac while showing no, or very little, symptoms. My blood work showed I had it and my endoscope showed little signs, therefore it was positive. I could go eat a pizza buffet and not fart once!
A couple years ago, I went gluten free for a few months. During that time, if I ate gluten I would have some stomach symptoms. The same thing is happening to me now. A couple chocolate chip cookies, hurts my stomach.
So, if I eat gluten, I feel fine. If I go gluten free, when I slip-up, I don’t feel fine.

Last night I went over to my aunt and uncle’s house for dinner. She was having turkey, mashed potatoes, and corn… so I’m all good with the menu. I immediately opted for a margarita instead of a beer… so far so good! After dinner something terrible happened! My aunt makes her amazing chocolate chip cookies! I had to have just one… well I’d already had one- one more isn’t going to hurt… two or three, who cares! So, about an hour later my stomach starts to act up. You’re probably saying, “but Mike, I thought you didn’t have the typical stomach type of symptoms?” ...

I’m getting used to this hungry feeling… nothing seems to fill me up the same way a gluten filled meal does. But really, it isn’t so bad. I’m not on a super clean/healthy diet, so I can usually find something to snack on. I’ve just been watching my portion size. Corn chips, sunflower seeds, beef jerky, pistachios, an orange, and some gluten free pretzels. The pretzels tastes just like normal people ones!

I love sushi. Especially when it is half price at my favorite local restaurant, Kona Grill! Tonight, my girlfriend and I met a couple of friends there for Happy Hour. Usually, I would get a nice, cold, fresh, beer, but tonight I opted for a margarita (beer is going to be my downfall). Sushi is best when dipped in soy sauce that is mixed with some wasabi. Since, I am new to this lifestyle change (gluten-free eating that is), I don’t know all the particulars, like what brands of soy sauce are GF… I decided to eat first, and do my research later.
After we finished our meal (it was really good!),...

Sometimes you are starving and in need of a snack. Your hunger gets the best of you and you overlook obvious things.
Tonight I went to the local boat show. Along with boating stuff, they allow any vendor with a product into the show. One vendor was selling mixes for dips, and they had fifteen dips made and laid out as samples. I asked the vendor how you make them and confirmed that there is no gluten in them. Exciting! So, I start to sample them… then I suddenly realize I am eating pretzels! Crap! Fun over!
Don’t let your excitement and hunger get the best of you!
