A few nights ago, I went to a meeting for the Kansas City Cigar Aficionado Club. I skipped dinner, because I had to leave at 5:30 to get there. I guess everyone else skipped dinner also, because the organizer ordered a bunch of pizzas to be delivered. When I heard he was ordering them, surprisingly I didn’t get all excited and thought this was going to be easy. I was wrong. Once everyone started grabbing pieces of pizza, I was still doing OK, but was starting to want some of that hot Domino’s pepperoni pizza, but I resisted! 30min later, I was starting to get hungry and there were leftovers. Usually, I am the person who is praying that there are leftovers, so I can have MORE PIZZA! This was killing me, and I think I passed out when I saw good pieces of pizza fall into the trash can.
I am always someone who succumbs to temptation when it comes to food. If it is good, I eat until it is gone… way past when I am full. Every time I eat too much, and I’m sure you have experienced this many times too, you always regret it later. Not the celiac symptoms, but just that feeling of being unhealthy and over full.
I had the opposite experience on the way home. I felt great, but still hungry. I felt good physically and mentally. I knew I had passed the test!
Congratulations!! on the great self control.
I have a fairly new job and about once a week they get Dominoes. My boss tried getting the chicken wings one time for me. Well, they were either the ones with gluten or cross-contaminated. I was soo sick.
I keep telling them that Garlic Jims has a GF pizza I can eat, but now they order pizza on my days off(I see the empty boxes the next day).
Congratulations! It does get easier with time (mostly)!
Glad you stuck to your gluten-free diet, and felt good about it. I think social situations are the worst part of following the diet. You’re tempted, you know you shouldn’t, you don’t want anyone else to feel bad…it’s difficult, but you did it!
