My husband travels. His favorite is sushi and once you know what to avoid (spider rolls, fake crab...) it is a great gluten free meal. He carries a little airplane size Jack Daniel's bottle filled with Soy Sauce. It is airplane legal and he feels more "manly" with a booze bottle than a soy sauce bottle!

i have taken my own gluten free soy sauce to many a sushi restaurant. i get the really small glad containers, slip it into a ziplock sandwich bag, and put it in my purse....of course you don't have a purse. but it is do-able :) i usually just try to make a joke when i whip out my personal stash of sauce. it's so awkward!

Mike,

I am just reading some of your posts after following you on Twitter (TCStaples). The best thing to use in place of soy sauce is Braggs Amino Acids. You really won't notice much difference in taste. Yes, I carry it with me when I go out for sushi. Some brands of Tamari are wheat free just be sure you read the label.

It's okay - they're (restaurants) getting used to it and you will too :) Just remember: no artificial crab!
