There is no way I could stick with a diet if I couldn’t still eat foods that taste good and eat a variety of foods.  Especially in the beginning, I have stuck to 45% protein, 35% carbs, and 20% fats in each meal.  My daily total of calories started at 2300 and has slowly dropped to around 1800-1900 calories per day.

I do eat a lot of boring and bland foods, because they are quick and easy to make, but I usually have one “good” meal each day which takes a little more time and preparation.  Below, is a photo gallery of some of the “good” meals I have made.  Each one sticks pretty close to the nutritional breakdown of 45/35/20.  Some of these meals I portion out and save some for later.

I try and use any kind of sauce or dressing in moderation… something that is new to me.  Wild Thymes and San J have a wide variety of sauces that help keep my meals interesting.

I don’t have any photos of my breakfasts, because those are usually the boring ones.  I usually have 2 whole eggs, 4 egg whites, a red potato(or brown rice), and some vegetables(onions and green peppers).

You will even see some fried chicken!  Believe it or not, with the chicken, corn meal, eggs, and olive oil, the nutritional facts are pretty much perfect.  I may be a little over on the oil sometime, but I am usually lacking in my fats each day.

No, I didn’t drink the Redbridge beer… that was only put there for the effect.

Diets don’t always consist of boring foods!

Tips:

• Start your diet on a Monday.  I weigh in on Fridays, so over the weekend I have the tendency to cheat a little. If you weigh in on Monday, then you don’t want to cheat over the weekend.
• Keep a healthy snack around for those moments when you are staving or it is time for another meal and you are tempted to cheat.  I keep Nectar protein packets around, since I can eat them anywhere I have water.

This was a good week, so I don’t have much to say.  I stuck to the diet, no big cheat meals, and got some cardio in.

My Nectar protein packets have really become a staple on my diet.  One is always my last meal of the day around 10PM.  I shouldn’t have any carbs this late at night, so getting 23g of protein, 0g carbs, 0g fats, and 0g sugar is perfect!

My goal for the next two weeks is to lose 5 pounds, so I will be at 200 starting the second half of my diet.  I don’t see any big obstacles in my way this week, or next, so I will be upset if I don’t get there.

After taping many small videos during the last few weeks while trying each of the Nectar flavors, I found that I repeated one word an embarrassing amount of times: SHOCKING.  I guess that is the best way to describe my experience with these Nectar packets by Syntrax.

I’ve tried many different brands of protein shakes and drinks over the years.  In college, my friends and I would try a few brands, then put in a large order to one of them.  Just so we could stand the taste of drinking it every day, we would have to settle for a protein powder had some sugar.  Not any longer!

Nectar has 23 grams of protein per serving: 0 carbohydrates, 0 fats, and 0 sugar.  I am amazed that something can taste so good without having any sugar or fat.  Seriously, I compare it to candy, Pixie Sticks, and Kool Aid when I drink the different flavors.  Everyone I have let try Nectar has agreed.  I can’t imagine something could taste any better that didn’t have sugar.

They have been a great tool for my diet.  I keep some in my car, my briefcase, and at home.  If I am out somewhere, I just find a cup or a water bottle and make a shake.  It gives me that needed protein and holds me over to the next meal.  Even off my diet, I plan to keep these in my routine.  They are not a hassle to drink and don’t taste bad- actually they taste great!  Don’t grab a soda, drink a protein shake.  I wish Nectar packets were sold in every gas station.

I’ve made a habit of having a couple servings per day.  I always make one my last meal of the day, since I don’t want to sleep with lots of food and carbs in my stomach.

I can’t say enough about how good these are.  It isn’t a struggle anymore to find the “least bad” protein powder.  Now it is about what tastes the best.  I challenge you try Nectar and see if you ever consider using your old protein again.
